I designed these two AI features to make everyday phone calls smarter and more useful - a smart summary that captures key moments and actions after a call, and an assistant that answers when you’re unavailable.

Approach

I explored how AI could support everyday calls through the native phone app. I focused on natural moments after a call or when users are unavailable and built two solutions: Smart Call Summary and Call Assistant. Both were designed to offer useful actions, respect privacy, and feel native to the phone.

Feature 1: Smart Call Summary

I designed this feature to give users a quick, helpful recap of what was said, not just a transcript. It highlights key info and offers follow-up actions like booking, reminders, or calendar links. The flow is built to feel native, showing up right inside the contact call screen.

Feature 2: Call Assistant

When the user can’t answer and has approved it, the AI assistant steps in. It talks to the caller, transcribes the reason, and keeps everything clear and editable. I designed the flow to be simple, respectful, and easy to control. Users can also customize their assistant through settings to match their tone and personality.

Process to Solutions

Insights from Everyday Calls

I mapped current flows and tested existing tools like Google Assistant, Siri, and call summary apps. The insights were clear: users often forget what was said, can’t follow up in time, or simply can’t take a call. I explored how AI could fit into these gaps without feeling overwhelming. I paid attention to what felt useful vs. what felt like overkill. These early reflections helped shape ideas that are simple, relevant, and actually helpful.

Designing Seamless AI Interactions

I created flows that blend into existing phone habits. For the summary, I explored ways to extract and present info without requiring effort. For the assistant, I built a responsive UI that’s transparent, easy to customize, and always keeps the user in control. I also kept edge cases in mind like missed calls, unclear requests, or privacy concerns, and aimed to solve them without friction. The goal was a layer of AI that feels more like support than a takeover.

Smart Call Features in Action

From wireframes to a responsive, animated experience that feels intelligent. I wanted every interaction and animation to feel like a natural part of iOS, while still bringing something new. It was important for me to show the AI as something that quietly works in the background, supports the user, and makes sure things get done. In this video, it all comes to life.
